Canvas Training Intro

Weekly trainings and virtual office hours.

List of our upcoming in-person trainings.

If your department wishes to schedule a group training session we ask that you have the following:

  • A minimum of 8 participants
  • A room with projection and a whiteboard
  • Participants will need to have access to computers because this will be a hands-on training

Canvas Trainings

A variety of resources are available to assist you in learning how to use the Canvas Learning Management system to migrate and deliver your courses easily and effectively.  

Getting Started

Course request tutorial - a brief tutorial that illustrates the course request process.

Canvas: Course migration - a step-by-step overview that covers how to copy content from Blackboard course to a Canvas course, using a zip file.

Canvas: Quick-start guide - a quick guide to building your first Canvas course.

Canvas: Manage your Course - a brief interactive overview that highlights the items faculty need to know about Canvas.

Accessibility Tool: Ally - a brief overview of what the Ally accessibility tool is and how it works.

Canvas Trainings

In-person Canvas training:

Register for in-person training using the interactive Eventbrite calendar located on the leftt-hand side of this webpage.

  • Basic and Intermediate Canvas
    • This training is for instructors who are familiar with Blackboard and wish to learn how best to move their courses into Canvas. The first 30 minutes will introduce folks who have never used Canvas to the interface. The remainder of the training will be aimed at migrating and building your courses in Canvas.   •  Advanced Canvas
    • Prerequisite: Prior Canvas experience or attend the above Basic and Intermediate Canvas workshop.
    • This training is for instructors and instructional designers who are familiar with Canvas and wish to learn the advanced capabilities of the Canvas LMS. It is ideal for Instructional Designers and power users of the LMS. Canvas Power Users Q&A document

Course Administrator Training

Course administrator training is open to those individuals who will be responsible for managing courses for their School or College. If interested, please contact Tahlia Ewing to schedule training session.

Consultations and Office Hours

The Canvas Migration Team will be visits each of the ASU campuses weekly to provide open office hours for questions and drop-in assistance.  Appointments can also be arranged. A schedule of the Migration Team's trainings and office hours can be viewed here.

College-specific Training

Many Colleges are holding College-specific trainings for their faculty.  If you are interested in learning whether your College is sponsoring such an event, please contact your College Liaison.
